The US of A's National Rifle Association ordered the Bush administration to boycott an United nations conference to prevent the spread of illicit small arms around the globe.
Spokespersons for the arms control movement cited grim statistics: "In South Africa, a 15 year old boy has a 1 in 20 chance of being shot to death before he reaches 35 years of age. In Colombia the same statistics apply except the age of death is 25"
The US seat at the UN conference sat empty and the NRA was happy to explain why it prevented a US representative at the conference: "The US and other states that respect the right to bear arms like China, Iran and Pakistan want all good people on earth to have plenty of guns so they can kill all the bad people on earth. We also want the good people with more guns than they know what to do with to be able to sell them to the good people who need guns to kill the bad people who somehow got the guns we wanted to sell to only good people!"
