LONDON -- With cash coffers overflowing from oil sales, the Municipality of Dubai, UAE offered $300Million US to puchase Orange County California, including "all land, improved and otherwise".
Dubai Municipality spokesperson Ahmalee Saeed confirmed the offer today, stating that it plans to convert the southern California county into a resettlement for the nationless Palestinians.
"How ironic! With a small fraction of the billions of dollars Americans send us for oil we can buy their own land out from under them" Saaed stated, unable to contain a wry grin. "Oh, and maybe we can help world peace, too" he added.
"We appreciate America's support, and are thrilled to see they still refuse to develop their own natural resources", Saeed stated.
Many believe Saeed is referring to the US Congressional Democrats' refusal to allow drilling in ANWR, an area in Alaska containing perhaps the largest untapped crude oil deposit on Earth.
Besieged by the blights of increasing foreclosures and home vacancies, a rapidly declining tax base, and "junk" rated municipal bonds, spokesperson Brain Bachte declared that Orange County may have to accept the offer.
"We don't have any choice. At least this could put a few dollars back into our residents' pockets", lamented a worried Bachte. "We just hope the Palestinians agree."
Bachte has reason for concern. Palestinian National Authoritiy President Mahmoud Abbas stated that "this is far from a done deal. We may hold out for a better location. Quite frankly, many of our West Bank residents are rather frightened at the thought of surviving in Watts."
