Chinese President Hu Jintao issued a statement stating that the People's Republic of China will not send a team to Beijing to participate in the Olympics. Jintao cited China's poor record on human rights and the environment as primary reasons.
While many other countries agree with Jintao's assessment, others, like United Kingdom Prime Minister Gordon Brown, think there is another reason.
"The reason why I think they are 'boycotting' the Olympics is because they cannot afford to send the entire Chinese team to Beijing."
When asked about the Chinese boycott, United States President George W. Bush remarked, "Cool! More medals for Americans!"
