Gillian Gibbons, the English teacher jailed in Sudan for calling a Teddy Bear 'Mohammed', was actually an MI5 agent on a mission to undermine the confidence children have in Islam, Sudanese authorities have claimed.
According to the government there, Gibbons had been "brainwashing" children as young as 4 years old, telling them that "religion is rubbish" and that, instead of daily chanting, they should be out kicking a football against their neighbours wall or gluesniffing.
Ishmail Katanga, who was one of 200 police officers to have 'frisked' Mrs Gibbons, said he had discovered a Walther PPK - standard issue for all MI5 operatives since the 1960s - "in her breeches", along with a Bible and some lesson plans. This, he said, was indisputable evidence that Gibbons had embarked upon a path to bring down Islam.
Mrs Gibbons was freed from jail last week after receiving the relatively lenient revised sentence of 40 lashes on the labia with a wet teabag.
