Washington DC --- If Hillary Clinton is elected President of the United States then it will be the first time the President of the United States has ever had a husband. Tradition states that the wife of the President should be called the First Lady, but there has never been any consideration what you would call the husband of a President.
There has been much discussion about what would come of the Office of the First Lady if a man held the position. Many suggestions have been given, first of which is that Mr. Clinton would be called the 'First Gentleman' of the United States. Mr. Clinton shared a chuckle with media on the campaign trail, stating, "I've been called a lot of things, but never a gentleman."
Although there has never been a precedent,'gentleman' seems the front runner at this point. Other suggestions that have been suggested have been the first 'man', the first 'sir', the first 'male' of the United States.
Several political analysts have suggested that 'gentleman' is too archaic, and that the term 'first lady' is also archaic, but continues to be used because or precedent. Steve Woodruff (Woody), a Washington insider has suggested that Bill Clinton may be called the first 'dude' of the US although most would agree that this is far too casual. He went on to offer 'first guy', or 'alpha male' of the United States.
Mr. Woodruff insisted that if Mitt Romney happens to get elected he would call Mrs. Romney 'first babe' of the United States. Mr. Woodruff has not been taken seriously by most of his colleagues since he started calling Barbara Bush, 'first wrinkled old lady' of the US.
