Latest reports say that a woman from Barcelona who was gored 'half to death' at the annual Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, was taken there by her husband.
Consuela Martinez, 48, told hospital staff that her husband, Henrique, had taken her to Pamplona in Northern Spain, as a 'special treat', but had disappeared at the moment of the bulls' approach.
"I could hear their hooves. It was like a thunderstorm," said the frightened housewife, "but when I turned to my husband, he was gone."
Police subsequently found Senor Martinez at a tapas bar a mile away "celebrating something", and very drunk. When told his wife was recovering in a local hospital, he passed out and had, himself, to be taken to the hospital for treatment.
The authorities think that Senor Martinez may have become anxious at the last moment, and retired to the bar to soothe his fraying nerves.
Last night, Senor y Senora Martinez were recovering in side-by-side beds at the Annual Running Of The Bulls Hospital in the city. Staff there say they expect both patients to make a full recovery.
