Japanese defence Minister Fu Kyamutha resigned today after a comment he made in a speech on Saturday was taken the wrong way. Mistakenly believing that everyone had heard the old joke about the Mayor of Hiroshima's last words, the punchline drew an angry response from survivors in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki (where the fellers chew tobaccy).
Unaware of his monumental faux-pas, he proceeded to recite a short piece from Mein Kampf and finished with a karaoke version of Springtime for Hitler, from the very popular hit musical 'The Producers'.
It was only as he began to leave the rostrum that he realised his 'turn' had gone down very badly. Yet undeterred, and to the further astonishment of onlookers, he mimed the act of Harikiri and winked to the audience.
'You can't win them all' he was later heard to say, though it was unclear whether he was referring to the cool reception of his speech or to the second world war in general.
