The image was iconic, the pose defiant, the mood melancholy, and the regime oppressive. The time was 1989, and the place, Tiananmen Square, in Beijing, China. Until now, the identity of the brave man standing up to the Chinese authorities has remained unknown, but extensive research by TheSpoof.com has unearthed details you weren't supposed to know...

Thirty years ago this morning, the Tank Man took on the most oppressive totalitarian machine on Planet Earth, and survived.

Videos on YouTube show Tank Man walking into the path of an oncoming column of tanks, and standing blocking their progress. As the tanks try to maneuver past him, he shifts his position several times, and when they halt, he then climbs aboard the first tank and tries to get inside. In the background, tank and machine gun fire can be heard in other parts of the city.The video of the footage was played on news bulletins all around the world that evening, 5 June 1989.

In the confusion that followed, Tank Man disappeared, or 'was disappeared'. All attempts to discover who he was, and how he could find such extraordinary courage to do what he did, were in vain.

Recently, however, undercover Spoof operatives have managed to locate associates of Tank Man, who had assisted him in avoiding the Chinese authorities for the thirty years since the Tiananmen Square massacre.
