Dublin, Eire - Two masked men on pedal cycles carrying laser-guided BB guns were seen speeding away from the scene of the crime in the Clondalkin area of town tonight after a volley of shots was fired at John Gilligan, 69.
The convicted narcotics dealer had recently been released from a 17 year stint in prison after being rejected for a Blair Government-style of Irish get-out-of-jail-free card similar that the alleged Hyde Park bomber got last week.
Tonight he was being treated for multiple gunshot wounds at the nearby Royal Shergar Infirmary surrounded by armed police.
A statement issued by the Garda late this evening said Gilligan was acquitted of shooting dead Dublin Sunday Independent investigative journalist Veronica Guerin whose 1996 slaying remains unsolved.
