Russian officials have confirmed that a 68-year old oat farmer wearing a catcher's mitt caught the meteorite that crashed early Friday in the Yadayadayada region of that country. Officials say Ivgeny Squishedsky stood in his yard for hours eagerly waiting for the meteorite to hit.
"Ivgeny, he is good man. We grow oats and play baseball together and he is good catcher. He buy new catcher's mitt just for meteor. He catch it, but now Ivgeny not here," said Squishedsky's neighbor Vlasik Picklevich.
Officials, who initially dismissed the streaking meteorite as just another Boeing 787 battery fire, estimated that the meteorite was the size of a bus and traveled at 33,000 miles per hour. "Ivgeny should have had bigger mitt," said neighbor Picklevich.
