The state of New York has begun to allow homosexual hounds and bitches to marry. For years now, campaigners have been howling for gay pooches to have equal status to their straight canine friends.
Dog marriage laws vary considerably throughout the US. In Utah, dogs are still allowed to marry polygamously, but they cannot adopt. In California, dogs can even marry other species.
Things are not so liberal in the deep South. In Alabama, same-sex dogs are not allowed to co-habit, or to sniff each others' bottoms in public.
Thankfully the gay dog civil rights campaigners seem to be winning their battles. Next week the state of Vermont will vote on whether to allow gay dogs to adopt human babies, as well as a vote on allowing all dogs to drive.
One group who are not happy about this are cats. One moggy meowed, "It's political correctness gone mad."
