SUMATRA, INDONESIA - No, the baby hasn't kicked the nicotine habit, but he has stopped using intravenous drugs.
Two-year-old Ardi Rizal, who smoked two packs of cigarettes a day, has broken his heroin addition, the Sumatra Daily News reported Thursday.
"He has stopped using and doesn't ask for 'smack' anymore," Arist Merdeka Sirait, chairman of Indonesia's National Commission on Child Protection, said. According to earlier reports, the child was placed in state custody after the video emerged and the boy's parents said he would cry and throw tantrums if he went too long without getting a fix.
"He needs to be in a heroin-free environment so that he doesn't start using again," Sirait said.
Anti-smoking advocates say Indonesia's tobacco industry markets its products to babies, according to the Daily News.
