First Lady Michelle Obama has seen a drop in her approval rating, largely due to her trip to Spain where she and her entourage enjoyed luxurious accommodations. Conservative pundits have called her a modern-day Marie Antoinette for taking such an extravagant trip overseas when so many Americans are struggling financially.
Mrs. Obama's trip also drew the attention of executives at the Travel Channel, who collectively expressed a positive interest in the first lady's vacation. They were so impressed with the elaborate style in which Mrs. Obama traveled that they have given her an open invitation to host a show on their network.
"She's a natural," said an executive at the Travel Channel who asked not to be identified. "Michelle Obama travels in a fashion that Robin Leach would envy and she's already been to more countries than Anthony Bourdain." The Travel Channel executive also mentioned that the first lady was in Spain when her husband was celebrating his birthday. "This makes me wonder about the state of their marriage. If the Obamas divorce, and I hope they do, Michelle won't have to wait until 2013 to start her new job here. If they stay together, the network will endorse President Obama's Republican opponent in 2012 because his reelection would force us to put Michelle's show on the back burner until 2017. That wouldn't be good."
