Conspracy theorists are having to re-evaluate the credibility of their claims today, after workers digging at the World Trade Center site in New York discovered a 32ft-long ship (9.8m) hull believed to have been buried in the 9/11 attacks in 2001.
Theorists have claimed that, as no wreckage was ever found of the attack planes, that the whole incident was 'staged' by forces closer to home, in a bid to stir up animosity towards Islam amongst Americans.
Now, however, with the discovery of the ship, the rumours of US government involvement look to have been all-but-scotched.
'Archaeologist' Molly McDonald hopes the ship, discovered on Tuesday, would be retrieved by the end of the day. She said:
"We hope to be able to say with some certainty that this was the ship that carried one of the bombs that blew up the WTC. The vessel looks to be of Arabic design, and we've already found a sandal and a fez nearby."
Asked how the ship, not an airplane, became buried in more than 20ft of mud underneath the building, Ms McDoanld was guarded in her reply when she said:
"Oh, I don't know. We'll come up with some story that kind of fits later, but, right now, it's important that we focus on just how nasty those Muslim bastards are, bombing a great city like New York."
