The work of the United States' Treasury Secretary is being replaced by a call center in New Delhi. Treasury secretary, Tim Geithner, is on an official trip to India to begin the job of training the replacements for him and his staff.
The 24/7 Treasury department will serve customers around the globe, in real time, while those few remaining senior staff members will continue to attend state events in Washington D.C. Geithner will oversee the new process as the virtual Secretary of the Treasury and officially remains as the Secretary of the Treasury.
Pranab Mukherjee, Indian Finance Minister, met with Geithner last week to work out the details and contractual obligations that India is assuming. One of the first tasks of the on call team is to give China a nudge about their currency policies.
