TRENTON - The New Jersey State Senate has just passed legislation by a 97-3 vote to make Pizza the state's official food.
Prazzo Pagazzano a spokesperson for one of the state's leading pizza manufacturers, The Leaning Tower of Pizza Company, said that he was thrilled beyond words at hearing the pizza news.
Leaning Tower of Pizza CEO Vitale Savuto stated in a prepared statement, "I ama so happy to say data all of our pizza family isa so happy to hear dat pizza isa now New Jersey's officiala food."
New Jersey State Representative, Timothy Waterland, (Paramus-D), stated that due to the popularity of the MTV reality show Jersey Shore, the state has been getting a lot of great publicity due to the Italian influence.
Waterland went on to say that he is Italian on his mother's side and Swiss on his father's side. He laughed and said that growing up his mother would make the only pizzas in Brooklyn with pepperoni, sausage, ham, and chocolate.
He also recalled that his mom used to put wine in his baby sister Ginny's bottle of chocolate. He giggled and said that sometimes little Ginny would sleep for 24 hours straight.
Representative Waterland stated that in honor of the great ethnic group known as the Italians, the state of New Jersey has mandated that all residents of Italian heritage will get a 20% discount at any New Jersey pizza restaurant, diner, or bistro from now until Columbus Day, October 12, 2010.
