Murphy, NC (IPP)- A Murphy, North Carolina man was arresrted today for not throwing trash out of his car window onto the road.
Mark Rigdon of Murphy was being followed by Officer Dempsey McClure as he drove down Peachtree Street. The street is three miles long and the officer stated that when he noticed that no trash had been thrown out during the entire length of the road that he had no choice but to issue a citation. Mark Rigdon refused to sign the ticket and was taken to the new county jail a couple of miles away.
Peachtree Road and other nearby roads are covered with litter. The practice of tossing garbage and litter out of car windows in this area goes back to the last century when automobiles first appeared on the red clay roads the area was famous for until they were paved with asphalt in more recent times.
