Now that the inauguration is over ex-Pres Bush is finally able to free himself of the guise of being an 'everyday guy'.
The first thing he did after giving up this pretense was buy a $2 million mansion in an exclusive neighborhood of Dallas, at a time when many are losing their far cheaper homes to foreclosure. He can now finish with the rolled up sleeves and denim look that he adopted to win over the working class.
Of course, even in the richer parts of Dallas society, this guise still works, although the "Aw, shucks" language won't fly.
Mr. Bush loses his job this month, like the 3 1/2 million also have this past year. But Mr. Bush and his family will continue to get free healthcare and protection the rest of his life that the other 3 1/2 million won't. He will also draw a pension, so he will also not have to rely on the other 'everyday guy' institution, social security, which he unashamedly tried to alter.
Also Mr. Bush will not have to work until he dies like so many older Americans will now have to do.
