WASHINGTON, D.C. - Upon meeting Congressional leaders to discuss an economic stimulus plan with them, US President Barack Obama addressed news on the country's economy. "I've asked Larry Summers... my top economic advisor, to give me daily briefings to monitor... the economy."
"Frankly, the news so far has not been good. Each day brings, I think, greater focus on the problems that we're having... not only in terms of job loss, but also in terms of some of the... instabilities in the financial system," the President said.
Obama stressed the importance of corporate integrity, and said, "We will make companies accountable... uh, for the money they are spending from the stimulus package."
After the meeting, President Obama was approached by the head of the Congressional housekeeping staff. "Considering present economic conditions in America," she asked, "Would you mind doing your part and tidying up a bit around the podium at which you have just spoken, please sir?"
She smiled at him. Just before the meeting, she had cleverly placed a $100.00 bill under the podium. President Obama later found the bill while sweeping. He immediately asked an aide to summon the Head of Housekeeping. When the aide returned with her, he asked her to, "Please... try to find out who this belongs to."
The housekeeping staff gratuitously praised the President for his honesty. They say he will be a fine President.
Barack Obama just smiled, because he's seen that one before.
