The joke was on us all. That crazy cut-up, Governor Rod Blagojevich, is really a secret member of the famous Chicago nightclub show Second City that introduced many famous comics like Steve Martin and John Candy to Hollywood. Blagojevich is the stage name of Horatio Belushi, the third up-and-coming Belushi who is following on the heels of his more famous brothers, John and Jim.
Belushi achieved the creme-de-la-creme of practical jokes in an elaborate set-up that involved years of planning and political climbing to pull off. Using the same foul-mouthed verbiage and sleazy antics that made his brother John a star, Horatio has trumped everything John has done except perhaps that bit in Animal House when he jumps on a ladder from one sorority window to another while voyeurizing.
It was an act of near schizophrenic mania to pull off the double career. Appearing only out of state on stage, Belushi always snuck back to Illinois to appear as 'Blagojevich', a name stolen from his Albanian heritage, whenever the 'governor' was needed at a function.
