New York - (Rioters): Attorneys acting for beleaguered Governor of New York Eliot Spitzer say the vice sting outing him as 'Client No 9/11' in the Emperor's Club VIP investigation is part of an illegal White House wiretap run by George W Bush.
"Anyway, Governor Spitzer was always acting undercover," a statement from the Manhattan law firm said today.
"As such his investigative role into an alleged prostitution ring is exempt from the Presidential overrides permitting warrantless wiretaps," the statement continued.
"Governor Spitzer was merely making arrangements for potential vice witnesses to testify in Washington AC/DC.
"Any suggestion he was paying for sex is frankly ludicrous," the attorneys' source added.
"So is the notion he's been screwing New York voters."
A resignation statement is expected soon.
