(NEW YORK) Times Square in the city was closed off this morning after a huge bomb blast decimated a shop window and caused paper bags to fly about uncontrollably. A dog also barked.
The blast, which it is suspected, may have been the responsibility of terrorists, happened just before daybreak, and nobody was injured. Several people in the area, however, were woken up prematurely.
The explosive device, which measured 0.2 on the Richter Scale, was planted outside the US headquarters of satirical news website TheSpoof.com, which is situated next door to an Army recruitment centre. Police and US Homeland Security officials immediately panicked and laid the blame for the outrage at the door of al-Qaeda.
Terrorists are regularly pilloried on the pages of TheSpoof, and may have retaliated by trying to blow up the building.
Former Spoof contributor Erik Gnarlson, who recently resigned from his job under extreme pressure of work, and through becoming bored, said:
"This could have been another 9/11, but instead, it's a 3/6".
