Washington, DC (IPP) - The number of arrests for internet operation while intoxicated (IOWI) violations has gone up dramatically since the law was first enacted one year ago. The law is unsual because it is the first law ever enacted universally by all nations.
In the United States 32,000 internet users have been arrested for IOWI violations. A New Jersey woman has been arrested twice and part of her plea bargain agreement stipulates that she must blow into a tube or urinate into a tube attached to her computer before using the internet. If the computer analysis of her breath or urine sample reads positive then she can not access the internet.
Most of the people arrested for IOWI tell their arresting officers that they thought they would never get caught. It is the fact that the there are so many millions of people using the internet to begin with that leads to many circumstances where internet users are caught red handed operating the net after too many drinks or after using either legal or illegal drugs to the point of impairment.
