The US military has mislaid over 190, 000 weapons in Iraq in the time in takes the sun to slip beneath the hazy Iraqi horizon.
A Pentagon official explained, "We put the weapons down for a minute, turned to watch the sunset, and when we turned back, they were gone."
The news will undoubtedly lower morale amongst the already dejected soldiers fighting in Iraq.
One soldier said, "To lose one weapon may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose 190, 000 looks like carelessness."
Another told The Spoof, "I don't want to get shot by my own weapon. I mean, one of our weapons. I don't want to get shot by my own weapon or one of our weapons. To be honest, I don't want to get shot at all."
A team of lost property officials has been dispatched to Iraq to search for the weapons but the chances of finding them are slim.
Said Robert Seeker, "We'll be putting fliers up asking if anybody has seen the weapons but we don't hold out much hope. These weapons are already likely to have been put up for sale on e-Bay."
Asked for his response to the news, Dick Cheney said, "Shit happens."
