Vice President Richard "Dick" Cheney has been presented the "Guardian of the Second Amendment" award by the National Rifle Association (NRA).
NRA president Wayne LaPierre said that Cheney is deserving of the honor. "Dick is a friend to the Constitution of the United States in general and to the 2nd Amendment in particular. His shooting of not only quail, but that lawyer down in Texas last year is what it's all about as far as I'm concerned."
Cheney was all smiles as he accepted the award, a gold-plated trophy in the form of a shotgun, which is fully functional.
Anti-gun groups held a demonstration outside the event.
