New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine announced, in his first full day back on the job, that his first act in office would be to visit Paris Hilton in jail.
"My recent experience as a traffic law violator has opened my eyes to her pain," Corzine said. "Paying a $46 seatbelt ticket fine just isn't enough of a consequence for me."
In a strange twist, Corzine has requested that the jail outfit a special cell for his visit with Hilton. In a letter, a copy of which was obtained by your correspondent, the Governor asked for mirrors covering all the walls and ceiling of the cell, along with a leather couch and a massage table. The letter indicates that the mirror will ensure security and privacy for the celebrities and the massage table would be helpful for his physical therapy. However, there was no explanation of the need for the leather couch.
A spokesman for the Governor's office declined comment, as did a spokesman for his wife. This correspondent did catch up to the Governor's son, who indicated his ongoing support for his father, and then asked: "Do I get to go too?"
Ms. Hilton, when told of the Governor's visit, had only a brief comment: "That's NOT hot!"
