'Scooby Doo', the well loved character from the long-running American animated television series, was buried today after suddenly dying at the age of 45. His first appearance on our TV screens was in 1970, and his 20-year career spanned two decades. Sadly not all of the Meddling kids turned up for his funeral, with only 'Shaggy' actually making it to the ceremony.
Fred Meddling, speaking from his home in Florida said 'Scooby was the best pal anyone could have', but he was too busy filming to say more'. Daphne Meddling could not be contacted, but was believed to be shooting for 'Playboy', and Velma Meddling has just landed a role in 'Confessions of a Librarian' so naturally she couldn't make it either.
Scooby's young cousin 'Scrappy Doo' did get permission to take time off. He presently has an occasional walk-on part in UK serial drama 'Coronation Street' where he plays 'Schmeichel' and often takes one of the younger members of the cast for a walk.
A spokesman for the original broadcaster CBS said 'I don't remember Scooby personally, but I'm sure that if I did - I would have great things to say about him'.
