The first of 5 000 police specification mobility scooters manufactured by the world mobility giant Pride will go on sale today.
These scooters have been produced specifically for the needs of every police department that patrols any local shopping mall. They are painted black with high visibility markings, have decals corresponding to the logo of the law enforcement agency that ordered the scooters, high visibility LED emergency light packages, sirens, long-range radios, and mobile computers.
Of the new scooters, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said 'They will assist the officers of the LAPD patrolling the various malls within our jurisdiction, including Woodland Hills Mall, which is a notorious spot for illegal activity.'
COPS DVDs were also sold at the event, with one young boy dressed in full LAPD uniform buying all 24 seasons.
