In a lifelong trend, which shows no signs of changing over the short term, people in their 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and older still list the weather as the top topic in conversation with both strangers and close family and friends.
Mr Darren Uffer, 67 said: 'I do it all the time. Down the pub, on the phone with my children, I always ask what the weather is doing, or make some obvious, really asinine comment about it like 'Nice Weather for Ducks' or something.
'I mean, obviously I don't know what weather Ducks like. For all we know they could want holidays in Barbados, or somewhere, but because they are here, we say it is nice weather for them. If it is snowing though, we never say nice weather for a Polar Bear, although we don't see them here, do we?
'Anyway, what is the weather like with you? Really, that good. Never-mind, soon be Summer'.
It is August.
