David Cameron's decision to appoint Andy Coulson as his communications director, is a little easier to understand following the emergence of certain disclosures. They both enjoyed spying on people.
Whereas Coulson liked to eavesdrop on people's private telephone conversations, Cameron liked to spy on ladies, in various stages of undress, in the privacy of their own home.
In the early eighties, several women in the Newbury area, reported being watched by, "A youth with a face like a budgerigar." Cameron was finally arrested after his description was circulated among local twitchers.
At Newbury magistrates court, Cameron was bound over and ordered to wear boxing gloves in bed until the age of twenty one.
When confronted about this on the steps of number 10, Cameron said, "Of course I regret, and I am extremely sorry about the furore it has caused. With 20-20 hindsight and all that has followed, I would not have done what I did."
When asked about his decision to appoint Andy Coulson he said, "Ditto."
