The protest group UK Uncut have shifted their focus recently from being anti-circumcision to being against government spending cuts. A number of them have gathered in central London today to hold another protest.
Today's gathering was defiant against the coalition government and the cuts they are making across all government departments. Many of the protesters seemed to be under the impression that private bankers were responsible for the problems in the public finances. One crusty said, "If the bankers didn't take their huge bonuses then the country wouldn't be in this mess. Government spending is directly dependent on how much banks give their staff." The protesters are therefore planning to demonstrate against banks in their misguided rampage through the streets of London.
Due to the difficulty and cost of gathering together so many protesters, it is likely that numbers will have to be cut for the next protest march in a few months. It is not known who will have to stay at home, or how many, but to some it is clear who is to blame. One hippy said, "It's all the fault of those bankers with their bonuses that I can't afford to travel here next time."
