UK Home Secretary, Theresa May has revealed that she goes by her middle name, as her forename is actually April.
"My full name is April Theresa May," she said. "However, April May is a silly name, so I've been called Theresa for as long as I can remember."
The Member of Parliament for Maidenhead has also revealed her younger sister is called June, and her brother is called August.
"Our parents got a calendar mixed up with the baby name book," she said. "I dread to think what would have happened should I have any more brothers or sisters. I suppose Jan isn't a bad name, but May May is certainly an odd name."
Theresa admits that a surname of May is one that leads naturally into government. "It is rare to find a politician who will say 'will', but very easy to find one that will use the word 'may'."
William May, her father, disagrees. "I think Will May is a good name," he said.
Theresa has ensured that she did not carry on the family tradition. And she named her daughter Amy. "I like the name Amy May," said Theresa. "It has a nice symmetry."
Theresa May's maiden name (the name she had in Maidenhead), is actually Brasier. Which, a feminist, she had to burn quite quickly. Whichever alternate spelling from the spellchecker you use.
