Urgent advice has been issued to couples planning their wedding.
The Financial Ombudsman Service is making a national appeal to ensure that insurance is taken out in case something goes wrong and the event is ruined.
For less than 1% of the total cost of the big day, couples can buy peace of mind.
An F.O.S.spokesman launched the campaign on London's South Bank with the chilling words "For the sake of a few extra pounds, don't take any chances. Make sure you take out insurance with a reputable company".
AXEINTHEBACK Insurance are reckoned to have the most comprehensive wedding policy, which will pay out in cases of "emotional distress" caused by any of the following occurring :
- The groom's mother-in-law confessing that her own marriage is just a sham and offering herself to her son-in-law in return for a mortgage free mansion in the suburbs.
- The original band splitting up due to "artistic indifference" and being replaced by a duo whose heroes are Black Lace and The Cheeky Girls.
- The travel company with whom the honeymoon's booked goes bust and the only replacement holidays available are in Cairo, Brisbane or Baghdad.
