Traffic on the Isle of Wight was thrown into chaos yesterday when a road was unexpectedly blocked.
Said eye-witness Fred Thropwheedle: "It came completely out of the blue.
"I was just cycling along minding my own business - it was a lovely day with the sun glinting off the snow - when all of a sudden the road was blocked by a white barrier. There was a strange beeping too - I looked around but there were no flying saucers or anything.
"Anyway, this barrier just stayed put. There was absolute traffic chaos - there was me on my bike and a women with a pushchair just left waiting, unable to proceed.
"A few yards away on the other side of the barrier I could see a guy in a van and behind him a blue Vauxhall Astra. I couldn't see if it was a man or woman inside that.
"Suddenly a train went speeding by and a few seconds afterwards the barrier removed itself.
"It's an absolute disgrace and someone's head should roll. The Island's commerce could be seriously damaged by hold-ups like this!"
