Nick Clegg has suffered the huge embarrassment of being denied entrance to the Liberal Democrat conference currently taking place in Liverpool.
Apparently the security guards did not recognise him. Although he said several times that he was Nick Clegg, leader of the Liberal Democrats and Deputy Prime Minister the bouncers replied:
"Deputy Prime Minister you may be. But we have heard your policies on cuts that hurt the poorest, that prevent school improvements, that reduce jobs and which reward the bankers that got us into this mess. You may look like the guy that used to lead the Lib Dems - but you are no Lib Dem. Sling your hook."
So Mr Clegg left and flew to New York to address the UN. "Sod you all" he said as he lifted a glass of champagne to his lips in his first class airline seat. "I am Deputy Prime Minister and I love it!"
