Westminster was buzzing this morning when it heard that an email with subject: "Nick Clegg defects" was doing the rounds amongst senior civil servants.
An angry Mr Clegg confronted the senior mandarins, saying that it wasn't true and that such rumours were extremely damaging to him as he tries to manage the tensions between his role as Deputy Prime Minister of a right wing government and leader of a left wing party.
However, the truth was far more mundane and the matter was soon cleared up. It was all down to a spelling mistake. Clegg was told that the email should have read - "Nick Clegg defecates on his party to obtain personal power and prestige". The Deputy PM's mind was put at rest - "Well that's perfectly true." He said - and whistling went off to slash the benefits of the some more smelly poor people.
