In a bizarre story, a man from the Isle of Wight got married to his dog this weekend.
Norman Muttcock, a 53 year old batchelor from Newport, wed Pom-Pom, a 7 year old pomeranian-cross bitch, in a civil ceremony on the island on Saturday.
Mr Muttcock has been surprised by the amount of publicity that this unusual union has created.
'I can't see what's so strange', he said earlier today. 'Same-sex marriages are allowed these days and they can even have children. Other men buy wives from abroad and that's now widely accepted. I've been living with Pom-Pom for seven years now. We love each other and marriage seemed to be the next obvious step.'
When asked about the public response to his wedding he replied, 'Most people have been very supportive. There have been a few objections and some have cruelly suggested that I must be some sort of pervert. I can only assume they must object to the age difference. They must of course remember that in dog-years, Pom-Pom is 49 not 7. I'm no paedophile!' he concluded.
