Like many village pubs these days, the Plough Inn at Wigglesworth is closing down. However, the local Post Office remains open and will provide a service for drinkers.
Customers will be able to pay up front for a range of beers and spirits - which will be guaranteed next-day delivery.
"This is good news for us thirsty villagers," said local resident Tom Kegworth, "but you need to plan ahead for your drinking sessions."
Some older customers are less enthusiastic, as they will now have to queue longer for their weekly pensions. "But at least they will be able to order a drink while they're waiting," said Joe Settemup, the post office and bar manager. "And we'll be putting up a dart board in the corner."
