Gordon Brown has said he is "thrilled" after being caught on microphone describing a pensioner he had just spoken to as a "bigoted woman". He went on to say she would make an excellent addition to his cabinet.
Gillian Puffy, OAP and bigot, 65, had challenged him on issues including immigration and single-vision lenses.
As he got into his car, he was still wearing a broadcast microphone and was heard to say "that was excellent".
Mr Brown later went to Mrs Duffy's house in Rochdale to discuss terms and conditions for her appointment.
After spending more than 40 minutes talking to Mrs Duffy, the prime minister said: "I'm an excited Prime Minister today. Sometimes you say things you REALLY mean to say, sometimes you see people who will be a valuable addition to your team. Mrs Puffer..Pufter, PUFFY is one of those.
"I wanted to come here and say to Gillian that I am over-the-moon with her acceptance of my offer. She's a great woman with a big future in politics...one to watch, if you will."
