A leading member of the Government has publicly vowed to strip a banker. In a speech made to an audience of zero Harriet Harmless said "I will make sure that I strip a banker. I'm going to claw everything. Those pinstripe suits look fab, but I want to see his portfolio. I want to see the size of his package".
City watchdogs have called for Harmless to keep clear. The last thing the city needs now is another scandal. The prospect of having a Government minister delving deeply into financial affairs is a step too far.
Bankers have expressed concern at Harmless's speech but they are relieved that it isn't Peter Mandyson who is after a banker's package.
