A Royal Navy nuclear submarine was apparently involved in a solid collision with a French nuclear submarine in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, the BBC has confirmed this morning, February 16th.
The HMS Vanguard and Le Triomphant were both badly damaged in the crash in extremely heavy seas earlier this month.
First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Jonathon Band said the nuclear submarines came into contact at a fairly low speed and no serious injuries were reported.
Both the UK and France insisted nuclear security had not been compromised but strongly advised against swimming in that area of the Atlantic for the next 2000 years.
There will be signs posted.
