Local residents were left shocked this morning when a truck delivering Holland's Pies was pie-jacked from outside a chippy in Denton, near Manchester.
The delivery driver, Pete Canpie, was unloading the delivery to the Happy Dragon chippy on Bakewell Road in Denton when the bold car-jacker leapt into the cab and sped off leaving Canpie holding a tray of steak puddings.
"I've never seen the like," said Canpie to reporters later. "I've made this delivery every Friday at the exact same time for the past twenty years."
Police sniffer dogs, Pasty and Pizza, were called in to try and locate the van, and are still following the trail of pies that fell off the back of the lorry as it sped down Bakewell Road, and round onto Pudding Lane. Unfortunately, as the dogs keep stopping to eat the pies that have fallen from the lorry, this could take some time.
"We've requested that local residents keep a pie-eye out for this nefarious piewayman," said Detective Inspector Jack Frost. "We know the general pie-rection he went in, so it's only a matter of time before we catch him, tucking into a pudding, no doubt. We have also alerted local hospitals to report anybody who comes in with stomach cramps from eating all the pies."
It's unclear at the present time whether the thief was after the truck, the pies or could not afford a cab home. A local football supporter had this to say:
"Who ate all the pies? Who ate all the pies, you fat..." he was carted away before he could finish.
