Buckingham Palace has published the menu for the royal Christmas luncheon at Balmoral in an effort to show empathy with people struggling to make ends meet during the credit crisis.
In a statement from the palace the queen's spokesman Sir Horace Fortiscue Bodice-Crabb said "the royal household is sharing the pain of the public and is scaling back the traditional Christmas luncheon quite considerably, moreover her majesty has ordered the traditional boxing day shoot to be limited to 40 guests and only 500 birds (instead of the usual 520).
This show of solidarity is typical of the sovreign who always seeks to understand and reflect the needs of her subjects"
