Mayor of Blackpool Mr Reg Tapworth has become the first council member to join the organ donation program.
He told our reporter "The NHS is always banging on about not having enough organs to go around, so I'm going to redress the balance by donating our famous Wurlitzer organ from the Tower Ballroom."
The famous organ which has seven Flue Ranks and seven Reed Ranks, operating on two wind pressures, and is about 5 times higher than a normal church organ, will sit in the waiting room of the A&E department at Blackpool's General Hospital, where waiting patients will be serenaded with tunes such as,'Oh I do like to be beside the seaside' and 'It's a long way to Tipperary'.
