Fabio Capello has once again demonstrated how he intends to inculcate discipline into the recalcitrant England squad.
According to sources close to the players, Capello called the whole team together for a classroom session. He spied Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney giggling and whispering at the back. Without saying a word he pointed to Ferdinand to come to the front of the class. A sheepish Rio made his way forward, grinning at the other teammates. But the grin was wiped from his face when Capello said in broken English: "This I no tolerate - you see?" and with that he whipped out a knife and cut off Ferdinand's little finger.
Holding up the severed digit to the stunned audience, Capello smiled and said: "I think we know who is the boss here."
The nine fingered Ferdinand ran screaming from the room and is now doubtful for the game against Switzerland.
Wayne Rooney woke to find a horse's head in his bed.
