An interdepartmental memo inadvertently leaked to the press association reveals that top government ministers are urging all Ministers and MP's to join the Carers Appreciation Society. The society has been in existence for some time but due to lack of members and support is not working effectively.
Carers suspecting that they are in fact utterly unappreciated have become increasingly disgruntled.
Stalwarts of CAS have been doing their level best to churn out assurances that Carers are regarded as "the salt of the earth" "corner stones of society" etc. Still the vast majority of carers insist that they see little evidence of the esteem in which they are purported to be held.
One stalwart is quoted in the memo says "lack of membership in CAS has really let Carers down". He goes on to explain that to feel truly, and deeply appreciated Carers need to hear far more after dinner speeches praising them to the sky. He revealed that Carers are particularly impressed by Charity dinner speeches, the more glitz and glamour surrounding the event the better.
It is common knowledge that many Carers having been up half the night tending to their carer often nod off during the day. Consequently luncheon speeches do not make such a deep or lasting impression.
Carers self esteem is at an all time low. If only more effort was made by parliamentary members, and staff of every department Carers would not be questioning their sense of worth. It is the governments job to correct this and ensure that Carers are convinced that they are loved and adored by every member of parliament. He added they must be left in no doubt just how much we esteem them.
