HM Prison Belmarsh. The setting for Channel 5's new reality show

Channel Cinco have announced that they are to release a novel reality show which will have a similar concept to the jungle-based 'I'm a celebrity, get me out of here', which is currently broadcast by rival channel, ITV.

The Channel Cinco show, with the very similar sounding name, 'I'm a 70's celebrity, get me out of here.' will be filmed in Belmarsh Prison, London.

The contestants will all be 'celebrity' inmates, convicted paedophiles incarcerated for their heinous crimes against innocent children.

The inmates will be set tasks to perform and the public will be able to vote for their 'favourite' at the end of each programme. The inmate with the least votes will leave the programme to serve the rest of their sentence.

Producers are guarded about the specific format of the show and in particular the likely tasks that the inmates are to be set. It has been hinted that the public may be able to vote for the weekly tasks which would generate additional income for Channel Cinco from premium-rate phone calls.

No names have as yet been confirmed, but it is believed that producers are keen to sign up Rolf Harris, Gary Glitter, Max Clifford, Chris Denning and Stuart Hall for the first screenings.

All contestants will be competing for the ultimate prize.....their freedom. The ultimate winner will walk free from jail although will have to remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely

Opponents have objected to the programme on the basis that the winner will be released from jail without having been fully punished for their crimes.

Others argue that having to appear on Channel Cinco may indeed be punishment enough!
