Tony Blair, prime minister and shoe fetishist, let slip in an interview yesterday that he thinks his chancellor and likely successor, Gordon Brown, is a "complete knobhead", while secretary for window boxes, Margret Hodge said in a private interview that the labour leader could "have Gordon in a fight any day".
Blair accidentally revealed his opinion in a hard-hitting interview with veteran reporters little Ant and Dec when little Dec posed the question "So, all in all, Gordon Brown's a bit of a knob-head, isn't it prime minister?" to which Mr Blair responded "Well, yes he is, but what I always say is why should I retire? I mean, I'm great I am!"
Meanwhile, at a private dinner for members of the Tabloid Hacks' Eavesdropping Club, Miss Hodge, who claimed she "had no idea there would be a journalist at the event", stated her opinion that if they were to come to blows Mr Blair would be the victor because of his dancing feet and potentially lethal left elbow. "Gordon's a big man" she was quoted as saying, "but he's in bad shape. For Tony it's a fulltime job."
Both comments have been vigorously denied by Downing Street, and Miss Hodges private secretary was this morning quoted as saying "Nah."
