Saddleworth council are keen to keep local pastimes alive for future generations, and it is with much controversy that they are hoping to make Morris dancing compulsory on the local school curriculum.
Head of local culture Councillor Winnie Buttress told us " The members of the council were inspired by the legacy that the Olympics was offering the country, and we were noting that local cultures and pastimes were been lost on today's generation, hence the reintroduction of something that is synonymous with the area".
We asked a number of local teenagers gathered outside the local off licence for their opinions of doing Morris dancing next term.
Stacy, 14, said she would rather do something that would further her education, rather than waste valuble time doing stupid dancing.
Another youth, who wished not to be named, told our reporter " If the school think that I'm going to ponce about in a skirt and a stupid hat, banging sticks around, they can f**k right off.
The motion has yet to be voted on by the full council.
