30,000 Minis have been recalled by the manufacturers because of a fault that it is feared could cause a fire.
The international recall follows the investigation of one case in Britain but there have been been no injuries connected with the fault, a spokesman said.
EIF News & Features Fashion Editor, Glenda Gripp, said: "This is very worrying for thousands of girls around the world. I mean, there you are, minding your own business and your skirt suddenly goes up in smoke!
"Mind you, I suppose this could have happened at a worse time of year. It's so cold at the moment not many girls are wearing minis, are they?
"That's a nasty freezing wind to have whipping round your nethers isn't it?"
